Vertegy's Platinum Project Receives Recognition with Citation of Excellence Award

St. Louis, Mo., June 15, 2006…Vertegy, the sustainability-consulting firm responsible for helping Alberici Constructors achieve Platinum LEED-certification for its headquarters in Overland, Mo., today announced that Alberici Corporate Headquarters has won another award for its outstanding sustainable design and construction. The project will be recognized at the Architectural Record Innovation Conference in New York with the Business Week/Architectural Record Citation for Excellence Award for 2007.  The building is one of eight Award of Excellence winners and six Citation for Excellence winners chosen among 176 entries from 14 countries.

As a building certified Platinum under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) ratingsystem, The Alberici Headquarters earned the highest credit level awarded to date worldwide by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), making it one of the world’s greenest buildings. The project earned 60 points out of a maximum 69 points.

As part of the project, Vertegy partnered with Alberici Constructors, the owner and general contractor, to convert a 50-year old manufacturing facility into Class-A office space for its parent company. The three-story brick office building and a large metal fabrication facility was deconstructed and the 60,000-square-foot office building was recycled, diverting 93 percent of the construction and demolition materials from the landfill.

Some other innovations of the design include operable glass windows and a clerestory glazing system to produce natural ventilation and open, sun-lit office space.  Also, a 65-kilowatt wind turbine generates nearly 20 percent of the building’s total energy needs and two retention ponds help to eliminate stormwater runoff.

Thomas Taylor, principal of Vertegy said, “The recognition Alberici Headquarters has received is beyond what we ever imagined. It’s a real tribute to Vertegy’s hard work, creativity and determination to make this building stand out from other projects out there.”
